It would take up a lot of space, and probably cost a bit for the parts (i.e. the not economically feasible for the average home part). There is a company that still uses the Teletypes only becuase they work very very well in the impact form printing business. Basically using them as a hammer printer without the huge cost to purchase them. The hammer printers are virtually the same hardware as some old teletypes.
