I wonder how long it'll be before this is offshored.
[link|http://www.newsoftheweird.com/archive/index.html|News of the Weird]: McDonald's franchisees in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Brainerd, Minn., and Norwood, Mass., recently began outsourcing their drive-thru order-taking to a call center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Thus, a Big Mac order shouted into a microphone in Missouri gets typed into a computer in Colorado (and a digital photograph of the customer's car is taken in order to reduce errors) and then clicked back to the originating restaurant's kitchen, which has the order ready in less time (30 seconds less, on average, with fewer errors) than the average McDonald's takes. [International Herald Tribune-New York Times, 7-19-04] It's pathetic that something like this is needed, but I guess it keeps some people in Colorado employed. It's a small leap though to offshoring this to Bangalore... Cheers, Scott.

There will be a point at which...
...enough ex-workers are pissed about offshoring that it will become a significant political factor.

You're so depressing
The price of accuracy.
Ummm request for factoid comparo:
What %UKers are strung out on pharm-chem antidepressants to get through the day in Their cubicles and such? (I know.. difficult to get honest contributors and believable surveys.. fake-it then; we've learned to settle for datatainment too - complements the bafflegab war stories and an AG who sings and yearns to be Pope.)

That's London, though.
It's all Australian bar staff and overstressed City folk.
Not exactly representative of the country as a whole.
