"Dead Couple to Be Married"
[link|http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=oddlyEnoughNews&storyID=6090577|Reuters]: A South African man who shot his pregnant fianc\ufffd dead before killing himself will be posthumously married to her at the weekend. o o o The groom's corpse would be dressed in a cream suit and his bride's in a gown for the ceremony, at which a priest in the rural village of Ceres in Limpopo will bless the union before the two are buried, the Sowetan said.
"In African culture, there is no death -- there is merely the separation of body and soul," said cultural expert Mathole Motshekga. "It is also important because the families are married together." What can one say?

religion is for the living, the dead have no need of it
for those left behind it offers comfort, thanx, bill
These miserable swine, having nothing but illusions to live on, marshmallows for the soul in place of good meat, will now stoop to any disgusting level to prevent even those miserable morsels from vanishing into thin air. The country is being destroyed by these stupid, vicious right-wing fanatics, the spiritual brothers of the brownshirts and redstars, collectivists and authoritarians all, who would not know freedom if it bit them on the ass, who spend all their time trying to stamp, bludgeon, and eviscerate the very idea of the individual's right to his own private world. Doesn't Mormonism allow the same?

Re: Doesn't Mormonism allow the same?
I think so, but the bodies don't have to be present. More than mariages they do religious conversions (without the expressed consent of the dearly departed).

In many cases
In many cases they do so against the written desires of those involved. This has gotten them into conflicts with the Jews over the years. Jewish groups are understandably nervious whenever anybody talks about forcible conversion, even if only post-life.

What's amazing to me is the belief that what Mormon do is...
of any consequence.

Reminds me of a short story I once read
An avowed atheist is visited by the devil one night with a contract for his soul in return for unimaginable riches. The atheist turns down the offer. The devil points out that the atheist doesn't believe in the existence of a soul, so what difference does it make? Atheist said he still doesn't believe in a soul, but figured if someone wanted it that bad he'd just as soon keep it to himself.

Well, there's a lot of 'em west of Utah, and . . . .
. . the whole Mormon "experience" is so money oriented many are pretty wealthy. The LDS church is sort of the Scientology of the 19th century.
Yeah, back in high school and just after I was sweet on a Mormon girl and her family kind of liked me, so I've read all their stuff. You're closer to reality believing in Star Wars or the Lord of the Rings. At least you can get some "action figures" for those.

I had a short crush on a Moonie as a youngster. Very - weird - time.
Bizarrely - I saw her years later on "Phil Donahue", during the "deprogramming intervention" craze.
