New A split in the ranks? New Mexico settles with Microsoft.
[link|http://www.washtech.com/news/software/11129-1.html|New Mexico Splits Off to Reach Microsoft Settlement] from the Washington Post.

Madrid said that Microsoft agreed to pay the state's legal costs \ufffd roughly $98,000 \ufffd and that New Mexico will be included in any future penalties or remedies that might be imposed in the case. Microsoft spokesman Vivek Varma said the company was pleased to have settled with New Mexico and is committed to working with state and federal prosecutors to resolve the remaining issues in the case. The Justice Department declined to comment.

Madrid's decision won't change the states' approach, said Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller, one of the leaders of the coalition of attorneys general. "We have the resources among the 18 states to go forward, and New Mexicans will get whatever we negotiate." Miller noted that Madrid took office in 1999, after the case had been filed.

Looks like a strange "settlement" to me....

Cheers,
Scott.
New "You get everything they get, but . . .
. . you don't need to spend the time or money, plus we'll pay off what you already spent."

This is a flat out buy out to weaken the case, and Ms Madrid is EXTREMELY unethical to accept it.
