New bad news, your contract is never up
I had been out of contract for over a year, apparently the contract extends itself month to month and if you ever decide to quit you will owe $200 liquidation damages. I currently have an FCC complaint going on that particular issue with Cingular may they lose every customer they have.
thanx,
bill

New I've changed service 4 times..
...and never paid any liquidation.

Leaving ATT I was nearly made to pay. Instead, I negotiated a settlment that gave me the min plan for the last 2 contract months. Traded a 200 debt for 2 billing cycles of $12.

New Generally in Aus you only pay if you break contract.
Once your contract is up you're free to go. I'm currently off contract, despite Telstra's best attempts to get me to join an other one with all sorts of 'special offer' deals. Funny thing is, now I'm off contract, my mobile bill is <$15 a month. It was 30-odd per month when I was on contract. 'Special Offers' indeed...
Two out of three people wonder where the other one is.
New Me Too
Nokia, once.

Also had a Siemens cordless phone system with base station wherein pressing the "talk" button on one one the satellite handsets for more than a few seconds while programming it (pressing that button briefly being part of the process) with a station id would apparently cause the handset to lockup and require return for service to fix. Said phones went back to the store the next day.
