Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Oh, Puh-LEEEZ!
I just can't see consumers installing an OS from scratch. Only techs like us are bold enough to try that. And a complete lockdown of hardware would be a very slow process, otherwise too many PCs would fail to install an upgrade.

How hard is it to put a CD in a drive and hit <ctrl + alt + delete>?

Which one of our intrepid band had his grandmother installing Linux from scratch? (Brandioch?, wharris[2]?)

This is exactly the kind of Wag-Ed urban legend crap that I would expect from a True Believer...or are you?

(Resistance is not futile...)
New Has nothing to do with how easy it is...
...and everything to do with user fear.

Grandma would not have undertaken the chore herself...unless she KNEW that someone was there that could fix it afterwards.

And if you tell me that you don't think those types of users are the majority...I will laugh very loud...my take is that the petrified user outnumbers US by a factor of about 100 to 1...if not more.
You were born...and so you're free...so Happy Birthday! Laurie Anderson
