Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Xandros "Open Circulation" edition released.
(From a Xandros e-mail I just received.) [link|http://www.xandros.com/products/home/desktopoc/dsk_oc_intro.html|Here]:

The Open Circulation Edition is a limited version of Xandros Desktop OS that can be download at no charge and freely distributed to others. It is strictly for non-commercial use, and no e-mail installation support is included.

If you're looking for a good Debian-based distro, this is one you might consider.

BitTorrent is used for the free download; it's $10 for the download if you want to use HTTP (to pay for their bandwidth costs).

FWIW.

Cheers,
Scott.
(Who has Xandros on his laptop but hasn't played with it much.)
New Imma have a play with that.
Expect an installation report soonish.

New I like it.
I have it installed on a K6-2/400, 192mb. Sluggish but usable. Default browser is Opera, which I've really tried to like...then installed mozilla 1.6 yesterday. Also, it comes with KDE as standard desktop and Kopete it's standard IM/irc client. I dislike it intensely, gaim or psi and xchat will be installed today. Also, the Gimp doesn't install by default, you have to subscribe to their premium service to get it.

The install was a breeze. This machine has weird sound and video cards (on board crap) that require tweakage with most linux distros. Worked right off the bat, so that impressed me.

There's a thing called "Xandros Networks" which is their GUI frontend to apt. Seems to work pretty well.

Overall it seems very well thought out, was easy to install, and works fine right out of the 'box.'

New Basically what you said.
Provisos/comments:

Opera's shite.
Kopete is great for regular IM work, but hopeless for IRC. Yes, X-Chat will be required.

The install is truly fabulous.

It couldn't find a working Audigy2 driver, though; the emu10k1 driver it installed produced no noise.

I like the way it gives you two desktops by default *with different coloured backgrounds*. This is an excellent visual cue.

I couldn't play a DVD out of the box.

I concur with your overall assessment; it's very polished and there's been a lot of work done here.
