New Recovering from appendicitis
Last Monday night I had really bad stomach pains all night. I didn't sleep a wink. I went to the doctor in the morning and after examining me he said he thought I had appendicitis and called an ambulance to take me to the hospital. That night they operated (lapropscopilly) and took out my appendix. Unfortunately it had burst already which makes things quite dangerous. For the last week I have been lying in the hospital in pain getting IV antibiotics.

I just came home today after a week in the hospital. What a boring time!!!! I was going out of my mind especially in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep. I hope I never step foot again in a hospital.

Now I am on the slow road to recovery, I can't believe how weak I got in a week. I am just praying that there are no further complications.

I am thankful to be home, especially since at home I can access the internet. I will probably be hanging out here a lot.

That is all for now.

Lucky you're alive. Peritonitis can kill you within hours.

New Going out of my mind from boredom
Any suggestions??? I have been reading books (mostly trash, thrillers etc.) but how long can I keep that up? I still can't sleep at night and the inactivity is driving me nuts.

New Whew! Dodged a bullet. Glad you're well!
As for what to do, work on that list of books that you've always said you'd read but have never had the time.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Gute Besserung
Go slow, and get well.

New Going slow isn't the problem
right now it is the only thing that I can do. I am shuffling around my house like an old man now.

New Re: Recovering from appendicitis
Whew.. trust you have been one of those who doesn't take a broad-spectrum antibiotic for every sliver -?- Peritonitis, as Ross says is still a squeaker. Lucky that you hadn't developed the frequent complement of resistant strains, for whatever they decided to try.

You'll need to rebuild immune system after all that kill off. You might use the web to see some of the suggestions in that regard. (It isn't often on the list of Things-to-Do in the US PDR (Physicians desk Reference) .. but there are ways to rebuild, if you find those (and concur that it's a good idea to actively assist).

Luck,

Ashton

PS seems about right, the lack of energy; lots of Good 'flora' are now missing from your whole digestive system, so you may not yet be metabolising your food very well. Variations on Acidophilus is considered a no-brainer, but there are others. (I don't have a clue how medicine is practised in Israel, what Doctors Always Say, etc. I presume though, that the predominant creed is 'allopathic' == treatment of symptoms, as in US.)
New Glad to hear you're okay!
I'll keep you in my daily thoughts.

As for boredom, if sitting up isn't working a lot, reading is an option, but if you want something to put you to sleep, I can make a few suggestions about what NOT to read to stay awake. ;)

New Focus on recovery
Don't try to do too much too soon. If you get really bored you can always make crank phone calls to tech support.
