New Russia warned US about Saddam?
[link|http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=5460304|Reuters]
Russia warned the United States after the September 11, 2001 attacks that Iraq's Saddam Hussein planned to hit targets on U.S. soil, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday.

Putin's remarks looked certain to help President Bush, but officials at the State Department expressed bafflement, saying they knew of no such information from Russia.

Putin said Russian intelligence had been told on several occasions that Saddam's special forces were preparing to attack U.S. targets inside and outside the United States.

"After the events of September 11, 2001, and before the start of the military operation in Iraq, Russian special services several times received information that the official services of the Saddam regime were preparing 'terrorist acts' on the United States and beyond its borders," he told reporters.

Very peculiar. First, nobody over here seems to know about said warnings. Second, Russia was backing Saddam, why would they warn us about his actions? Third, Why is Putin saying this now?

I would conjecture that Putin is trying to say on Bush's good side for some reason. Putin may also prefer that Bush win the election, since Kerry winning is liable to sour the currently cozy relationship between the countries.

New Commentary I heard on this.
Putin is staying in power via highly questionable means. Conjecture was that he is trying to muffle any forthcoming criticism of his methods and rule with this.

New Makes sense to me

Russia was the biggest loser after US invasion of Iraq as they had the biggest & most lucrative oil exploration deals in place or being put in place, with Saddam's regime.

I can only conjecture that Bush camp is buying Putin's support with promises of some sharing of the oil carve up.

I still have $25 riding on a bet that Bush admin will convince enough US citizens to win the next election without having to cook any more books other than to manipulate political realities (such as Putin's surprising but unconfirmed declaration). The Putin announcement plus the eventual outcome of the 9/11 inquiry, leaves me feeling that my $25 will be safe.

New I bet you think I want you to lose your $25.
But I'm not sure I do. The more Americans you talk to, the more you come to the view that we deserve G.W. Bush.

New Seems to me that Bush is the new Gipper for US but

Bush has little to almost no respect or admiration outside US.
Ronnie, for all his faults was liked just as much outside US as in.

But Bush seems to have enough in US to get him past the coming electoral post despite the Iraq lies and mess.

New Don't forget the French
Who had contracts for controlling interest in quite a bit of that oil themselves.

Of course, my former company went to great lengths to say they had never officially signed these contracts.

Doing so would have violated all of the UN resolutions in place.

Of course I believed them ;-)

New Yes, that would make sense to you.
And of course the Illuminati must also be involved somehow.
