I once drove from the western suburbs of Chicago to Austin in 17 1/2 hours, about 1039 miles if I remember correctly. Tack on another 3 1/2 for a Chicago to Detroit leg ought to do it.

Unless you're just talking about the northern border of Texas, THEN 18 hours would be about right.
