Depends how you define overpopulated
We can still produce enough food to feed the world.
We have too many for everyone to have a hundred acre yard on prime real estate, and the lifestyle they dream about.
Most people's personal definitions fall between those two extremes, and so people can legitimately disagree on how overpopulated we are.
