Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Oz problem has been 2 many samurai wannabees ...

Romping down main streets of Melbourne threatening people.

For some bizzare reason Melbourne (Rand take note!) is the samurai warrior wannabe capital of the world. On a per-capita basis more Melburnians fancy they can dress in asian style pantaloons take a katana and walk the streets in a drug (or some other) induced frenzy, waving the sword & doing so until Melbourn's notorious trigger-happy cops, shoot them.

Cheers Doug M

Some anecdotal evidence ...

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN (PS I can recite chapter & verse all the Nija clans from this TV show plus all the names of the key participants - as kids we were *mesmerised* by this culturally dramatic & different TV series)

New outlaw stupid gits, not swords
Swords arnt outlawed here but if I carried a broadsword into a grocery store I would have a nice deputy asking my intentions, if he didnt like the answer or I was threatening the nice deputy would blow me into kingdom come and all is well with the world. If I said I was on my way to the largo fair he would assist in carrying the beer to the car. Outlawing swords is an asinine thing to do.

New I thought I told this story before ...
but it doesn't seem to show up in Site Search.

When I was 5 or so in kindergarten I took my father's Navy dress sword to show-and-tell. It wasn't sharp, but pointy and was definitely a sword. The teacher seemed a little surprised, IIRC, but it was no big deal.

I'd hate to think how an act like that would be regarded today...

I would like to whole-heartedly agree with you, but the "yes, but" side of me keeps thinking of exceptions. There aren't enough police to keep a lookout for all the idiots out there. Some things shouldn't be carried around in public.

"Hi officer, I carry these nunchaku and this battle axe with me because I like to do exercises while I'm waiting for my morning train. I have no idea why everyone ran screaming from the platform..."

Cheers,
Scott.
New well around here someone with concealed carry permit
would show why private ownership of guns is a good deterrent. Cops can only investigate after the fact. Its up to the individual to secure their safety.
