10/31/01 9:27:25 AM ET ? AOPA members are reporting that local FAA authorities have closed more airports than are on FAA's list of airports affected by the notam prohibiting flight near nuclear facilities. Those additional airports include MKC Kansas City Downtown, LXT Lees' Summit and IXD New Century in Kansas City, Missouri; OJC Johnson County Executive in Olathe, Kansas; CLT Charlotte/Douglas International in Charlotte, North Caroline; and ABQ Albuquerque International Sunport in Albuquerque, New Mexico. AOPA is working with FAA headquarters to determine when these additional airports were closed and under what authority. AOPA will update its list of airports affected by the notam as soon as we receive clarification from FAA. Meanwhile, AOPA members are encouraged to report instances of other public-use airports that have been closed but are not on the [link|http://www.aopa.org/whatsnew/newsitems/2001/011030airports.html|official FAA list.]
I sure wish somebody would tell us something.
This "Hey, there's something that's going to happen, but go about your business, and don't worry, cause we won't tell you" is wearing old, fast.
But this does lead me to believe something serious is up, if they're closing CLT - one of the nation's busiest. I don't know about the others, but I believe they're also very busy.
