Unless, of course, they defect. In which case you make a point of treating them well and advertising loudly the pleasant fate of being a defector.
So you have a camp, no US force within hundreds of miles.. and they defect.. So what? What keeps them from defecting back?
From what I've heard, the concept of "defection" is a foreign one - local leaders change allies and loyalties as they need, for their gain (sometimes to their long-term detriment).
That's the problem with any sort of grouping here.. they don't have cohesiveness.
