New Client image caching
I'm trying to figure out why IE and Mozilla aren't caching images.

If I set the Expires header or the Cache-Control: max-age header for an image, then I would think that the browser wouldn't re-request that image until it has expired. This doesn't seem to be the case.

Is this a fool's errand, or am I just missing something?

New What version of IE?
IE 5, for example, had some funky issues:

New That's the opposite.
I *want* the stuff to be cached. :-)

As it turns out, the image requests are only generated if the page if reloaded, not if the page is reached through a link. Very odd.

New Refresh always grabs all images
New Not always...
Sometimes a refresh during a cookie based managed session with breadcrumb trail doesn't alway grab the milk^Wimages.

During development of Blackboard courses (an online teaching aid/publishing/grading/lesson application) we would have to "clear the disk cache" and restart IE and Netscape 4.x to get the right images.

But if you weren't logged in to Blackboard... you would get the images proper everytime. Some were cgi/perl continuously updated/replaced on the server. With the login... flaky. No login not flaky. Both code bases were in the wrong at times during the session.

New CTRL-F5 does, F5 just loads the cached page (if present)
