The problem is not the corruption of religion.
A thread some found offensive in Politics got me to thinking about what some of them decried about Islamic Fundamentalism, echoing the "conventional wisdom." You hear that "religion is the excuse", that "religion cannot be blamed" that "it is the corruption of religion that is the problem." Nonsense.
Having never been terribly interested in medieval superstitions, my reading of the manuals to the religions springing forth from Mesopotamia has been very light. But most of what I have read (for an example see: [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=155326|New Testament Calls for Jihad]) I find particularly vile.
(Aside: I am a theist, so do not confuse "religion" with what I'm talking about here. I'm talking about those religions rooted in the ME that come with manuals on how to practice them).
Read those manuals, practice those religions as written and you will be willing to kill any man who does not share your belief. You will take their women and children and make them your slaves. You will take everything they own. All of this, and more, according to your manuals, is God's will.
The reason you don't see the kind of horrors here in the US that you see in the ME from all the "believers" is that the vast majority here have corrupted their religions. They simply do not practice their religions in the manner their manuals instruct them to. So called "Islamic Extremism" is actually "Islamic Honesty" in the sense that they are practicing their religion as taught.
I am grateful that most Western "believers" do not practice their religions as taught or there would be widespread murder, rape and pillage all over the Western world.
The problem is most definitely not the "corruption of religion" but its absence.

Very good point now please explain how
federal highway money is tied to speed limits and blood alchohol limits to the states and point out the line in the constitution which gives the federal government authority of my drinking and transportation habits since I am to travel freely without let in any part of the union. Also explain how the USSR constitution explicitly allowed the gulag. thanx, bill

Ah, now I see why I was confused.
I never thought of "my" religion as coming OUT of the Middle East. Yes, Jesus lived there and died there and all that, but I thought that modern day Christiantity began in England, with the Church of England, and then the pilgrims fled over here to have their own version of it.
That's where I viewed my religion as having it's roots, hence the confusion.
Thanks, Inthane. :)

You really are confused
modern day Christianity did not begin in England by any stretch of the imagination. It is not just that Jesus lived and died there, Christianity is based on Judaism, in fact Jesus was Jewish.

Re-read.
Modern-day Christianity as practiced in the USA came out of the UK.
(Note to Americans: Stop talking about "England" when you mean "The UK". It's REALLY annoying and makes you look even more quaintly parochial than usual.)

Because the King of England got into a fight ...
with the Pope and the church higher ups so he created his own Church. [link|http://www.cofe.anglican.org/about/frame_history.html| Brief history of the Church of England ]
"English civil power and the Church developed in an increasingly uneasy parallel. Two points of contention were the Church's wealth and its ties with Rome. These differences came to a head in the 1530s, when King Henry VIII wished to obtain a divorce from Queen Catherine of Aragon for not producing a male heir. The Pope would not grant it. After a long campaign to reverse this decision, the King ran out of patience and proclaimed himself Supreme Head of the Church of England and the Church began its separate existence from Rome"

Correct me if I'm wrong here
England is a single country, while the UK consists of England, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland. (Does Wales count as a separate country?)

Doesn't say "England" on anyone's passport.
I'm a British citizen, not an English one.
