The big problem with successful teams is that other teams can tend to copy them which is why I think the NHL is in such a goal drought that it's in. The NJ Devils successfully proved that defensive all-out play wins Cups. The problem is that an all-defensive game sucks ass. It's boring. Hockey is a fast game. Who wants to see the neutral zone all clogged up resulting in no flow and constant dump-ins? Bleah. Even when the Leafs had their resurrection back in '92-'94, it was great that they were finally winning but Pat Burns had a more defensive system then which made for some boring games.
I'm hoping with the success of Calgary, Tampa and some other more offensive fast teams that the balance will swing back that way.
