would you really want to come back into I/T?

Hell, I'd leave it for good if I could find something that pays close to what I'm making now. At least in other professions, when you work nights and weekends, you get paid for working those hours.

New Things may be changing

It seems the tech jobs are coming back, I doubt the salaries will. I am getting job offers in my area, but I am rejected for anything because I only have an associate's and they want a 4-year or higher degree. I am currently working on fixing that. :)
