RENO, Nevada (AP) -- The U.S. military is demanding the return of five howitzers that two Sierra Nevada ski resorts use to prevent avalanches, saying it needs the guns for the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Personally I think it's pretty typical of the way the military keeps supplies. The Army has stockpiles of stuff it doesn't want to use, because it's old crap dating back to WWII in some cases. But is short of the up to date supplies because only enough to cover expected usage was purchases.
