A SONNET FOR D. ADAMS
Forty-two, forty-two
La di da and hoop-tee-do
It is not meaning I seek,
Only a roof overhead to keep.
They all say life has meaning,
In spite of the evidence,
Remember that all this gleaning,
Will soon be forgotten - whence:
Ask not what you can do for the country
Or God Almighty for that matter;
When it comes down to trying cases
All that counts is - are you getting fatter?
I am not. Are you?
So be it. Forty-two.
