New Where's the Dems call for Dodd to resign and apologize?
Or does that standard only apply to Lott?

"It has often been said that the man and the moment come together. I do not think it is an exaggeration at all to say to my friend from West Virginia that he would have been a great senator at any moment. Some were right for the time. Robert C. Byrd, in my view, would have been right at any time," said Senator Christopher Dodd, D-Conn.

Apparently, Dodd went on to say Byrd, would have been right during the Civil War. Since Byrd was a KKK member, obviously, Dodd thinks all blacks should be lynched, murdered, or enslaved. That's pretty racist. Dodd should not only apologize and resign, he should give all his money to the NAACP, take a vow of poverty, and move to Africa to do social work for the remainder of his life. ;-)

New Upon rereading....
I agree. It's not strong enough.

I agree with him the cirucumstances are not that same. But his conclusion:

Even so, Dodd said something stupid. And, both he and Senator Byrd should work out some way to apologize for this.

is definitely not strong enough.

New I don't remember Trent Lott being asked to do all that.
On the other hand, I (admittedly) don't remember the Trent Lott flap very well, either.

There are two standards that I would hold a person to in this case:

a) Could they be reasonably expected to know about this person's past behavior

and

b) If not, then once made aware of the past activities of such a person, how they respond to the knowledge.

Doesn't matter to me if they are Democrat or Republican.

The man is a total buffoon. OTOH, he was a useful counterweight to Strom Thurmond.

What can I say? If you can get him out of there, more power to you.
