It might be kinda nifty for an LRPD to also note nearby how many unread messages you have waiting. LIke, a number, or (gasp) LRPDs of different intensity. (On seconds thoughts, the LRPD is untouchable - no one has the right the sully the things we hold most dear:) )

Anyway, especially when on dial-up, saves having to load a whole page just to see one new post.
