Welcome to IWETHEY!

New An Email from Ben K's parents.
Received this today, and thought I'd pass the info along to ya'll, too.

the "..." is stuff about the job, etc.

hello addison,
...
we are slowly trying to piece together our lives
without ben. some days are better than others but all
in all it has been a very sad time. we buried ben's
ashes this summer in the old part of the cemetary here
in sandpoint. it is a place that is up on a hill
overlooking the countryside and under the shade of a
large old tree. the headstone was finally put up a
couple weeks ago. it's really nice as headstones go.
we never, in our wildest dreams or nightmares, thought
that we would be doing this for ben.
we wanted you to know that we put "our ben" on the
stone. one of the things that so moved us was when we
found the iwethey site and were reading the postings
about people's reactions to ben's death. and someone
wrote and said "our ben?". it was at that moment that
we were reminded that ben belonged to many people...
and we were so thankful that so many people expressed
their thoughts and were so kind to us.
...

New *heavy sigh*
Wow, it still affects me.

Thanks for posting that, Addison, kinda puts my day in perspective.

New "Our Ben"
Makes me so sad.
Don Richards,
Proud recipient of the ABBA.
New Thanks for that...
I really do miss him. An odd feeling to have about someone I never met in "real life".

But as I've said before...and was discussed at the annual South Jersey fesivities...this group is a unique experience for us all. My goal is to have the opportunity to shake the hand of every member of "the gang"...even CRC and the "Aussie" contingent. Will be on the other side of the pond a few times in the next couple of months...although not in Scandinavia...but the UK may be reachable...

Its good to have goals!

New Which side of Xmas? Never been to UK - 'bout time I went!
Let's drop in unannounced and rape-loot-pillage-and-burn at the $hill's, both at the same time! :-) (Or get together and try their weird warm wort in Londinium, or something.)

Sad thing is, even if I some day win the lottery (note to self: start *playing* the lottery!) and get the means to travel to the States... I'll only get meet at most one of Our Bens. :-(

New Both sides...
Will be in the City of Light several times in the coming months working on a project. Since I have connections I will probably be driving a nice vehicle on a couple of these trips.

I want to drive through the tunnel. My previous goal was driving through Place d'Etoile (circle around the Arc de Triomphe in Paris) at rush hour. Since I've done that I needed a new goal. Thats it....along with driving the SPA raceway in Belgium (in a Kompressor or other suitable >sporty yet comfortable< vehicle)

New Still very sad.
New There are no words.

Peter
New Thanks addison, for sharing those words.
It should remind us again that, such as it is, there is a community here. IWeThey was honored by the parents of Ben K. We touch each others lives, no matter how virtual we are.

Let's "cut each other some slack". When we disagree, try to disagree on facts and ideas without being disagreeable or personal. We're only human, but let us try.
Alex

Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction. -- Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)
New Well said.
It's still hard to believe that Ben's not with us. He was such a good guy.

:-(

It's easy to get caught up in a post and say things we shouldn't.

It's the community here that keeps me coming back. You folks really are amazing in many ways...

Cheers,
Scott.
New Thanks, Addison
I'm sure that we all* appreciate the wise tactfulness within your originally breaking this sad news. Harder must have been, to express the concerns of 'strangers, to the parents' in a way which - they now confirm was comforting to themselves.

* a presumption I try rarely to make - but in this case, believe it is simply correct.

I'm glad he had the right to choose this out; sad/angry that he used it, while so unfinished and with so much potential. As with so many other 'rights' we are apt to squander.

New agree -- still very sad! :(
New Still hits me...
...and it leaves me sad to think about it. But I would not trade that sadness for the opportunity to have occasionally traded a few words with Ben...
