New Cygnus SSHD question
Win 2000 server.
Cygnus installed, bash works.
Install for everyone as per docs.
OpenSSH installed.
ssh-host-config run
cygrunsrv installed.
"cygrunsrv -I sshd -p /usr/sbin/sshd -a -D" run.
"cygrunsrv -S sshd" errors
cygrunsrv: Error starting a service: QueryServiceStatus: Win32 error 1062: The service has not been started.

Yick.

I can execute it from the bash command line then access the box via ssh just fine.

How do I get it to run all the time?
New Run as service with whatever necessary permission
..according to the hosting account that will start the service.

This should be in the 2000 docs, I'm not going over to Windows and dropping my 43k connection to find out. In the past it was in the Resource Kits docs. WinVNC does the correct setup-as-service, you could install that and study what it set up among services.

BTW this should have been done for you by the installer - this is why I am skeptical of the entire Cygwin idea.

New I tried
as the local administrator (named, with password) as well "Local system account".
Same.
New How do I add a new service in NT?
I used the cygrunsrv to add sshd, but it actually created an entry named sshd which points to c:\\cygwin\\bin\\cygrunsrv.exe.

I can execute the sshd from windows command line and it works. Can I execute it directly via the services dialog? I don't see how to delete or create new ones in it, only how to start and stop them.

NOTE this functionality is supposed to be native in Windows 2000 IIRC. That is you don't need SRVANY and that junk from the RK.

New Instsrv not found on my system
Where do I get the resource kit from?
New Don't need it

The first link has both files (SRVANY.EXE and INSTSRV.EXE).

I was *sure* this facility already existed in Windows 2000 because it was so widespread on NT4.

New cygrunsrv acts as a wrapper for sshd
openssh comes with ssh-host-config script

[link|http://pigtail.net/LRP/printsrv/cygwin-sshd.html|Here] are the instructions.
