That attitude dates back to 1st crusades. In Germany the army that had gathered to go on the 11th century crusade decided why go all the way to Jerusalem to kill muslims when they had so many of these types of people already in their own cities, plus these ones 'killed Jesus' in to boot.

1st Jewish Pogrom started in 1012 in German city of Mainz - got worse as the centuries rolled by. 1st real massacre was in Rhineland in 1096.

And people wonder why the surviving Jews fight so intensely to protect a homeland on a measly patch of sand surrounded by Arabs whose anti Jewishness now matches what Europe went through a while back.
