Welcome to IWETHEY!

New RedHat 7.2 out!
I'm not about to download it just yet, but I notice that there are few items in it which might be regarded as... controversial:

  1. ext3
  2. Nautilus
  3. GRUB instead of LILO

New I've heard it has a lot of new features...
...but does it have a Debian installer yet?

New Re: RedHat 7.2 out!
I will have CDs by the end of this week and I'll be upgrading from 7.0.90 to 7.2

Natch, all the gory details will be posted here :-)

Wish me luck.

New Re: Got em down - burned 2 CDs but ???

I gather these aren't bootable CDs - is there a boot diskette image somewhere (on disk 1 ?).

Is there an easy way for me to set up a bootable version of the CD ?

Cheers

New How to boot Red Hat Linux 7.2
Go to the DOSUTILS directory

find a file named "RAWRITE.EXE" and run it from DOS or Windows 9X/NT/2000/XP whatever and then give it \\images\\boot.img for the file name and then A: for the floppy drive and it will create a bootable floppy disk.

New Re: Tks that helped

Looked at my RH7.1 CD & it has images & doutils but the 7.2 ISO image doesn't - that explains why I couldn't find it.

Need to think this one out further, but am assuming a 7.1 image will allow me to do an install from these 7.2 CDs.

Cheers

Doug
New Not a problem
just copy those DOSUtils to a directory on your hard drive to be used in a DOS command prompt (possibly on your path) to run to get the Image Files.

Have a good time being MS-Free if you get Red Hat Linux 7.2 and Star/Open Office to work! ;)

New Re: What website ?
ftp.cse.buffalo.edu

New Saw it on the shelf at Fry's on Saturday
Some friends came up this past weekend to go to the [link|http://www.texasrenfest.com/|Texas Renaissance Festival]. We stopped by Fry's on the way home and saw it on the shelf. My buddy who's big into Linux freaked as he had not heard it had been released. He picked up a copy.

New Installed!
Am using GRUB (nice, don't know how to configure it yet :-), Nautilus (been a fave of mine for a while) and ext3 (can't say I notice the difference).

Very slick installer, got everything right.

New What about reiserfs?
Does it let you install on reiserfs?

New Re: Installed! - Peter howdya doit ?

The ISO images I have don't appear to include a boot image - the 2 CD images also are numbered 3 & 4 in files held on them but other than that anomally appear to be the 1st 2 CDs of RH.

Because they aren't boot CDs, can you point to process to boot them ? (am assuming I can either download a boot diskette or use one off 7.1 - couldn't find one on the 2 CDs)

New Re: Installed! - Peter howdya doit ?
A friend of mine with a fat pipe and a burner pulled down the ISOs and burned me a copy of the first two CDs. The first one is bootable.

I don't do floppy disks :)

New Re: Installed! - Peter howdya doit ?

Does this mean that the ISO images were bootable ???

If so the the images I downloaded were not the standard ones ? - I got them from a RH mirror site.

Will try again elsewhere.

Cheers

New Frell! Another huge download
I just got done messing with 7.1 after the "Fixed Font" error that blew away my X Window environment. I wonder if 7.2 fixes that?

Here we go again, I just wasted 3 CDR disks only to create three more now!:(
