New Revolution in Iran?
[link|http://www.daneshjoo.org/smccdinews/article/publish/cat_index_30.shtml|Well, something's up]

This looks like more than just chanting slogans and distributing fliers. These kids are rioting. They want democracy, and they're willing to get [link|http://www.daneshjoo.org/smccdinews/article/publish/article_4146.shtml|killed] for it.

But a student uprising alone isn't going to do it against a [link|http://www.daneshjoo.org/smccdinews/article/publish/article_4130.shtml|brutal, non-democratic regime.] (That's the real thing, mind you. Not just rhetoric. Protesters die from torture there.) Never did, never will. They'll have to escalate to a full-blown civil war. And even that may not be enough. Will this be Solidarity in Poland or just the Shia uprising of the early 1990's? [link|http://www.daneshjoo.org/smccdinews/article/publish/article_4132.shtml|US support] can make all the difference. Depends how much we care about democracy and human rights. Me, I'm for democracy. But I know many here disagree.

Say, where's International ANSWER / WWP on all this? Or the UN? Uh, never mind. Forget I asked.

Hey, I wonder if [link|http://www.daneshjoo.org/smccdinews/article/publish/article_4153.shtml|this here] actually happened the way they describe it? Probably exaggerated a bit.

DEAL WITH IT.
"YAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" - Howard Dean
"How can I go to the bathroom when my people are in bondage?" - Saddam Hussein
"If I may be candid for a moment, and let's see you try to stop me..." - Jay Conrad Levinson
Compromise is for suckers. Seeking a middle ground is what led to 9/11.
"I do not want to be admired by scumbags and liars and wife beaters. I want to be admired by good and decent, intelligent and just people, and in order to achieve this I need to do things that make me despised by their opposites." - Bill Whittle
Never mind all the mass graves. Where's the nerve gas?

New While we're overthrowing undemocratic regimes
Why not also take on Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Pakistan?

As for Iran, the worst thing the U.S. can do is get involved. Any attempts by the U.S. to foment revolution will only backfire.
New Why not indeed. Voters willing, we'll get to them.
Musharraf's already trying to make nice. That's one of three halfway down.

Oh wait. Was that a rhetorical question?

"Fomenting revolution" worked just fine is Eastern Europe in the early 1990's. We kept the pressure on the Soviet empire until it tottered, and the locals took it from there. With NATO tanks and planes standing by.

(I don't know if that qualifes as "fomenting revolution" in the proper sense, but you chose that term. And it *does* qualify as exactly what you seem to be applying it to. Whatever you call it, it works.)

Qadaffi caved after we took Saddam out, and he's hundreds of miles away from our forces in Iraq, or any other large concentration of democratic might. Where's Iran? Look on a map, and tell me what you see.

New The Shah's regime was just as brutal and the Ayatolla
asshola overcame via rioting, it looks like the pendulum is swinging the other way, better not offer US support or it will backfire, much better to be quiet and let them sort themselves out. Give regime change a chance.
thanx,
