New a Spaniard in the works
There's a lengthy note on recent events and fallout from a Spanish correspondent on "Tom Tomorrow's" blog. This individual's take on the election does not dovetail with the philbot's:
Has Al-Qaeda voted in these elections? Yes, obviously yes. How could I, a voter, stop thinking in my killed and maimed people, young students, hard-working fathers and mothers, pretty college girls, fragile elders and even babies? Hey, they're my people. As a citizen, I have an obligation to them. But let me tell you that I honestly think that we voted not guided by fear, but guided by anger. In the critical hours after the attack, Aznar's Government confronted and bipolarized the Spanish people lying and manipulating even when the truth was alreday obvious for millions. This caused an automatic reaction in the low and middle classes thinking "they make wars against our opinion, then it's our blood who pays them, and furthermore they're lying us and insulting our deads and our intelligence". Not a good cocktail for a Government seeking re-election, I'm afraid. The result has been obvious. I think that if they had told the truth, they would have lost votes, but perhaps won the elections by a scarce majority. When they decided to lie the impossible, they committed suicide.

But hey, what does this guy know? He's merely on the scene, whereas we have marlowe to instruct us on the real meaning of these events, and isn't that special?

gratefully,
Die Welt ist alles, was der Fall ist.
New .38 Special?
I see what the Chinese curse we've assigned ourselves, means - Suspense within a noisy fetid room, filled with near-deaf folk all shouting Jaberwocky at each other, while fingering the handles of their six-shooters (and looking in their wallets) - as others prey.

Will it be 8 more months..?
or 56 months... ... ... ... .. ..?
of this slow brain death of daily neuron poisoning / anoxia / stupefaction.

Once upon a time there were the Lincoln-Douglas debates. The neurons tend to notice contrasts like this. Damn.. there goes another one - shrieking.

Ashton, more or less
New Guess what? Poles don't like lies either.
[link|http://www.news24houston.com/content/headlines/?ArID=25707&SecID=2|Polish president says his nation was 'misled' on Iraqi weapons].
Warsaw, Poland-(AP) -- Poland says it was 'misled' about the threat of Iraq's weapons and is considering taking its troops out of Iraq.

The comments from President Aleksander Kwasniewski mark the first time Poland has criticized the war in Iraq. He didn't blame any specific country.

He said he's "uncomfortable" with the information Poland was given about Saddam Hussein's weapons.

Earlier, he said Poland may consider withdrawing its troops from Iraq early next year, months ahead of their scheduled departure.

Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom ... the argument of tyrants ... the creed of slaves. -- William Pitt, addressing the British House of Commons (1783)
New Actually, it dovetails perfectly.
The terror attack presented them a stark choice, and this fellow explains just how he evaded that choice. Thus defaulting to the worse of the two options. This is the mechanism of intellectual and moral cowardice in one of its more naked manifestation. (Though you yourself demonstrate an even puter form above.)

According to this fellow, Aznar would have had a hard time winning no matter what he said. The appeasement was already there. But what does he know? He's just a guy on the scene. He hasn't the wisdom or insight of our own rcaragea.

DEAL WITH IT.
"YAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" - Howard Dean
"How can I go to the bathroom when my people are in bondage?" - Saddam Hussein
"If I may be candid for a moment, and let's see you try to stop me..." - Jay Conrad Levinson
Compromise is for suckers. Seeking a middle ground is what led to 9/11.
"I do not want to be admired by scumbags and liars and wife beaters. I want to be admired by good and decent, intelligent and just people, and in order to achieve this I need to do things that make me despised by their opposites." - Bill Whittle
Never mind all the mass graves. Where's the nerve gas?
