New Need help on getting Apples to join workgroup
(OS X Jaguar & Pather)

I have 2 Linux and several Win machines that all share disks/files using SMB protocol.

I just can't figure out how to tell the Apple machines to do same. There seems to be no place to identify he workgroup name even though the apple docs say that can do SMB sharing.

I have been through the System Preferences / Internet & Network / Sharing
but this part of the config is difficult & varies noticably between Pather & Jaguar.

Whilst the great bulk of Apple interface is tops, this area on the Apples is confusing & hard to follow, I can't even figure out how to get the Pather & Jaguar to share folders let alone trying to get them on the local combined workgroup (Linux SMB under RH9 is a breeze, Windows of course is almost good in this area).

Any clues as to how I can from the apple, see the shares from the other machine on my workgroup named 'homenet1'.

Tks

New To see other workgroups from the Mac
I'm on Jaguar, so with that in mind...

To see my Windows boxes I just hit Cmd-K in the Finder (or 'connect to server' in the Go menu), then twiddle my thumbs for a while (minute or more) until it finds the workgroups on my network. They're (eventually) all listed in the Connect to Server dialogue.

To put your mac into a different workgroup, go to your Applications, then Utilites, then open the Directory Access app. Unlock the settings if you need to, then go to the Services tab, click SMB, then Configure. It'll then bring up a sheet where you and change the workgroup you're in (and lets you specify a WINS server)

There, easy! (Yes, I know ... NOT!) I had to look up this 'change workgroup' thing in The Missing Manual.

Go to the apple menu (upper left corner) to System Preferences/Sharing/Windows File sharing... Get to know this pane and the firewall. It is your friend...
