Above link is to an Oz tv show last night where a former pig farmer has been testing methods for eradication. He says that the pigs are super smart & gave examples where pigs are trapped using a particular method, if they manage to get away they won't fall for the same trap twice. Also he highlighted how when using helicopters to cull pigs in a 20 sq mile area, he found that some pigs packed up & moved up to 200 miles away (he regularly catches pigs & fits radio trackers). Not sure how pigs number against kangaroos - just as long as neither get the vote I guess we can cope. Doug M

(Another nasty animal - Oz seems to be loaded with disgusting creatures :) Anyway obvious answer, Foster's 1st annual Pig Shoot. -drl

In some parts of Oz, like for example Dubbo in N-W New South Wales, there is a thriving industry in pig hunting for export to Europe as wild-boar. Went up in that area a few years back and noticed some 4WD's with a refigerated trailer towed behind. Was informed that was where they hung the carcasses which were collected into a larger container at a co-op and then freighted out for shipping to Europe. Didn't have an opportunity to sample though.
