. . on a Red Hat install, but it refused to work properly with plain ASCII piped to it (most jobs printed . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . eventually). Couldn't afford to mess with it any more on a contract job, so I switched over to lpng and it worked fine.

Not real impressed with CUPS at this point.

Yes, ASCII printing is a disaster because it gets routed through ghostscript like graphic jobs. I finally set up a dot matrix printer on the parallel port and print raw data to it when necessary.

You could run lpd in parallel to cups but then you have 2 UNIX printing irritations to deal with.

There is probably a way to get raw ASCII through cups but I don't have the patience to bother with it.

Curious - I usually run it through a2ps (and then it goes though cups).
