Yes, it was a major epidemic late forties - early fifties. Mojaisky invented flight, Lodygin invented the lightbulb, Cherepanov invented steam locomotive, Popov invented radio. Popov was actually the founder of my alma mater, Leningrad Electro-Technical Institute (now St.Petersburg Electrotechnical University).
