New Man, what a game
Avs lose to Detroit 3-2 in OT.

Was a pretty exciting game. Avs came out strong, scoring their 2 goals in the first 2 minutes of the game, just 18 seconds apart. CuJo was looking positively dejected, but rebounded well.

Detroit picked up a powerplay goal near the end of the 1st, and added their second in the second. The Avs lost two players to 4min high sticking penalties to end the scoreless third, so the OT period started 5 on 3 in the Red Wings favor.

It took just 57 seconds for Brett Hull to win it for the Red Wings.

Going into the all-star break, the Avs are still on top of the league with 73 points, with Detroit, Vancouver, and Philly tied for second place at 72. However, the Avs have played 54 games, the other three teams have played 56.

Lots of action, excellent play by both clubs and a very entertaining game.

Beats the boobwatch any day! ;)

Blues are flamed-out on all four, in a flat spin. Hockey season is all but over for us. We went from 3 in the league to dead and gone in about 1.5 months.

Quennville will be job hunting soon.

New Not quite over yet ;)
Not until after I go see my long awaited game on the 14th! Even without Mario, it will be exciting to watch!

New Sheesh.
I'd been looking forward to that game for two weeks. Last night I was up late helping my youngest daughter learn about acids and bases for her Science Fair project. I would have loved to see that game, but I'm not sorry I missed it given what I missed it for.

Thanks for the recap.

New Yeah no kidding
Leafs vs Senators though. I love these games especially when the Leafs win. It really sticks in the craw of Ottawa-ians (?) so deeply. Hehehe.

The Senators go up 4-0 against the Leafs by the middle of the game with their first goal in just 13 seconds from the start of the game. Then the Leaf goals started. 4-1. 4-2. 4-3. And with five minutes left in the third period the score becomes tied 4-4 thanks to Mr. Third Period Matts Sundin. Overtime Nolan scores the winner. Sweet!

The Leafs were without their number one goalie Belfour, no Newy, no Mogs, Tucker and Nolan working through eye injuries, Nolan with the flu apparently. The Sens were missing a few players too most notably Chara and Redden. As the game progressed the flu started to take hold and by the third period, there were only 12 Sens players on the bench.

Best of all was the crowd. It was a home game for the Senators but like at any other Canadian city there is always a sizeable Leafs crowd and since Ottawa is so close it can be as much as half the fans. Back on Saturday in Toronto against Ottawa, the Leafs fans were booing the Sens captain Alfredsson everytime he touched the puck, for his crosscheck from behind of Tucker several years ago and the kneeing of Sundin that game. Last nights game it was great to hear Alfredsson booed in his own building by the Leafs fans. The Ottawa fans tried to counter with cheers but weren't as loud. HAHAHA!

Great fun! I hope there's another playoff meeting this year and the Leafs come out on top again. It'll drive the Ottawa fans nuts again. Apparently it's quite amusing to listen to the Ottawa sports radio stations after they lose to the Leafs. The angst, the anger, the vitriol... :-D

New I hate you.
Why does really good sports TV have to stop at our northern border?

The Disney show (a.k.a ESPN/ESPN2) shows maybe, maybe, maybe ONE Leafs game a year. Makes me want to get a rifle and find a tall building...

New It goes the other way too
We don't get HBO or HDNET up here. Thanks to the CRTC and our idiotic Canadian content laws. Sure we get some HBO programs on a variety of our channels but we only get a fraction. Not getting HDNET really bothers me since I've had HDTV for a year now. An application has been before the CRTC for a year now. There currently is no competition for HDNET in Canada and thus nothing to protect but the CRTC continues to take their sweet fucking time with this! I could be watching 16:9 framed hockey games and a whole whack of gorgeous HD programs. But noooooooo! Bunch of bureaucratic braindead moronic fuckers!

You could at least listen to the Leafs games online. mojo640.com and usually the opponents team has a radio feed. Check the listings on nhl.com. Not the same thing as seeing it of course. Unfortunately for you it really boils down to what sort of audience the Leafs would draw on ESPN/ESPN2. Probably not enough to justify picking up the games. If icravetv.com wasn't killed by the Canadian and American broadcasters you could watch a TSN and Sportsnet online. It's so great how broadcasters put in a replacement product after squashing icravetv... *roll eyes*

New That's mostly what I do.
I listen on the net, 90% of the time to any hockey game I want to hear. They don't broadcast the Blues all the time every time they play, and I almost never see a real Penguin or Duck game, so I rely on the net.

Nope, it's not the same, but if you are really into the sport, it's better than nothing. Besides, it keeps my internet connection going so I don't have to hit reload as often. ;)
