Pitot tubes and static ports are key elements in even a quickie check. The tape is supposed to be reflectorized so that it stands out at night. I can't believe the pilots allowed themselves to be so fooled - the contradictory data should have told them to turn the damn computer off and fly manually. Oddly, the one thing that was working was ground proximity, and they ignored it. -drl
