How to install an RPM on debian.

RPM wants a database installed, apparently not on the base Debian distro. Tried apt-get, says there is python-zlib dependency. But it says there is a python-zlib already installed. Tried dpkg, can't remember the error. Glen Austin

The package produced is not going to be a Debian package; it's just an RPM forced into dpkg format. Find out if there's an actual Debian package that provides the functionality you need and use that if at all possible. Stepping outside the Debian system by using Alien really should be the method of last resort. It wants either tcpwrappers (header files in the standard header path), or PAM headers. I tried both options to no-avail. Had a similar problem with ncurses headers, but was able to resolve it. Might try alien and the binary distro again this weekend. BTW, I've been told no more work on this project, we WILL be implementing VPN, so any additional efforts are on my own time/dime. Glen
