New Re: geeze doc ya got any hair left?
Yeah, John was wondering if ANYONE had any hair left that was watching or on the field watching...

Exciting though, albeit weird.

It was fake excitement - Bulger is a putz and everyone justly hated him before this 3-int game - 2 time MVP on the bench. Martz is a nerd in the worst sense and - yes - a wimp. Should have ended in regulation, no love lost here. Piss on'em.

New Well we don't all hate Bulger
Lots of people like Bulger, and this loss wasn't just a failure by him. It was a combination of lots of things, including bad choices by the coach.

The die-hard Warner fans are the ones that hate Bulger, because they feel he usurped their star from the limelight. But not everyone here is a die-hard Warner fan.

I always go into the playoffs knowing we CAN lose, and therefore I'm not terribly disappointed when/if we do.

New Wrong
I saw receivers open everywhere. The ball never got into Faulk's hands on West Coast style dumpoffs, like Montana and Craig. Bulger is a quivering baby who crumpled under pressure. For fucks sake, there's a 2-time MVP on the bench who holds every conceivable Rams QB record and some NFL ones. There's a 2-time MVP RB who hardly touched the ball all year long.

Martz is not head-coach material. He's got the best weapons but has no balls to use them. Fact is, he's all pissy because of Warner's wife (God bless her) so he won't play him.

New Pundits this AM
The performance of Martz was so bad, that Carolina is not even getting credit for having played well (and in fact, they didn't play that well). The final 2.5 minutes will go down in grid history as one of the all-time chickenshit choke jobs, like Brian Sipe's INT in the end zone from the 7 against the Raiders when all that was needed was a FG.

A stunning, stunning choke job. I'm still in shock. Holt, league's best receiver, had *2* catches against one of the slowest, most inexperienced backfields in the league. TWO CATCHES. TWO! Faulk had, what, 3? It's just absurd. Boomer said "It gave me a headache, watching that game." Yes, and for us Rams fans, a gut-evacuating low blow. No one really minds getting beat by a better team - but pissing away a game like that - that is BAD.
-drl
New To be fair
Carolina had Holt covered most of the time...which is how Bulger ended up with Bruce as his #1..and Bruce had a good day. Bulger, also, had a pretty decent day. Don't get down on the QB and the players for something the coach did.

And he's done it multiple times. The guy must not watch ESPN at all...cause hell, even they know.

Marshall Faulk must touch the the ball 35 to 40 times a game.

1st half - 8.

Last drive - 8.

Marshall picked the team up and CARRIED IT when the game was on the line. And your idiot coach pissed away 2 shots at an outright win by letting the clock run to 3 without doing anything.

Quite frankly, it was the worst example of coaching I've seen since Rich Kotite was in Philly.

Carolina was good, they deserved to be there in a close game. You guys had the edge, though, and any other coach in the NFL would have won that game...even without the 2 time pro-bowl qb. (Bulger is actually pretty good...and Warner has his problems)

New Bulger - no "4 AM courage"
Shelby Foote said of US Grant - he had "4 AM courage" - you could wake him in the middle of the night and tell him his flank was turned, he'd light up a cigar and start giving accurate, effective orders. A real QB (McNabb, Favre, even Tom Brady) has that. Bulger choked. And I blame this on Martz - he has no confidence in him, no matter what he says. When it was clear he was choking (3 trips to red zone with no TDs), he should have pulled him, stuck the ball in Warner's gut and said "go get'em like ya used to do".

The Rams should put Martz back on offense and give the head job to Lovie Smith - a real coach.

New Don't make the assumption that Carolina stinks.
...Their defense in the red zone was amazing all year. Yes Bulger should have been able to punch one in...but he doesn't have the freedom that the qbs on your list have to "make things happen". (Again we're back at crap coaching).

Also, you had much better weapons when Warner played. 4 receivers that would start n any team at #1...now you have Holt, and the one player that your coach just doesn't seem to know how to use...Marshall Faulk. If the opposition knows he's not in you game plan (very obvious early yesterday)...you can drop back to 5 in the box and double-cover the speedsters.

New Re: Don't make the assumption that Carolina stinks.
Well, next week we'll see GB or Philly stomp on Carolina. They are IMO an above-average team with a fine head coach who plays football, not chess.

I don't know who to root for in your game - you and Imric or Brett F :) It should be a good one!

Prediction: Next year Warner will be starting QB.
