sure?
just to make sure we're on the same page - [link|http://www.spiceware.org/cgi-bin/spa.pl?album=./Xmas2003&photo=dcp03391.jpg|living room] vs [link|http://www.spiceware.org/cgi-bin/spa.pl?album=./Xmas2003&photo=dcp03463.jpg|family room]
While the price of 1 [link|http://www.spiceware.org/cgi-bin/spa.pl?album=./Xmas2003&photo=dcp03485.jpg|chair](there's 2) was slightly more than the combinded price for the [link|http://www.spiceware.org/cgi-bin/spa.pl?album=./Xmas2003&photo=dcp03435.jpg|2 futons], what's the point of having furniture you're not going to use?

I agree there
... what's the point of having furniture you're not going to use? I have an Aunt who had a house with an entire living room of fancy furniture. Some of it was plastic covered, some antique, etc. You were not even allowed to SIT ON IT. I don't know what that room was for, but we always called it her "Shrine" Nightowl >8#

Leaving plastic on furniture and lampshades - might as well have "HOOSIER" tattooed on your forehead.

The funny thing is...
Leaving plastic on furniture and lampshades - might as well have "HOOSIER" tattooed on your forehead. They weren't hoosiers by any stretch of the imagination. They were well to do, lived in a high class suburb, and all. I always viewed hoosiers as backwoods country people. Nightowl >8#

Me too!
I like country people. Most of the idiots I know are not country people. I've never even met someone I considered a hoosier... I wonder sometimes if it's a myth made up or something, because all the people I know who live out in the country are the sweetest, nicest people. And I know quite a few! Nightowl >8#

It's definitely NOT a myth. I almost tangled with one at a Rams party last year. He's in jail now.

Ah but I see the difference
You're talking about hoosiers who live in the city. I just read your description, and see, I've never seen anyone like that in the country. So my statement was I think it's a myth that all country people way out in the boonies are hoosiers.
I don't doubt the existence of them, just haven't seen them, in the city OR the country.

A Hoosier is
I've never even met someone I considered a hoosier
A Hoosier, by simple definition, is somebody from the state of Indiana. You know, it's "The Hoosier State", and most residents consider being called a "Hoosier" a compliment.

As stated
..it's different here.
Could be the local derogatory aspect stems from migration of Mormons. Wherever they went, Mormons were mostly reviled by the local Christians, until they got so far West that any survivors were welcome.

Re: Ummm...
This is not the Indiana hoosier. This is the Missouri/Illinois hoosier. A sort of meaner, grumpier redneck, often living in the city and not necessarily poor. Live for bar fighting and crystal meth. Often are too drunk and macho to obey stop signs, so have dented, fugly cars that rust fast. Averse to razors. Wear wife-beater t-shirts. Wives wears wife-beaters too and are also averse to razors. Muddy, half-laced work boots. The mud covers the blood from kicking the pit bull. Female hoosiers can be recognized by the fat rolls pouring over the belt loops of their skin-tight jeans, or by the baby vomit on their black halter tops.
