New Compulsory ballet for boys?
Saw this link on the ABC website looking for something else.

KATHY SWAN: At first, these boys-only dance classes raised eyebrows in the schoolyard and staff room of Melbourne's St Kilda Park Primary.

But the boys themselves were early converts.

BOY 1: It's fun.

BOY 2: I think it's just fun.

BOY 3: I like doing the hand movements.

KATHY SWAN: Do you think you're better at dancing than the girls?

BOY 4: Yeah.

Wade.

Is it enough to love
Is it enough to breathe
Somebody rip my heart out
And leave me here to bleed

Is it enough to die
Somebody save my life
I'd rather be Anything but Ordinary
Please

-- "Anything but Ordinary" by Avril Lavigne.

New Seems entirely reasonable.
It's mostly peer conditioning which is the prison of conformity among the tykes (and their elders). After all, even high speed motorcycle racing is a ballet, a smooth motion of one's CG about the machine, to describe a smooth trajectory for the pair.

All the instincts are there, as much as in females (and it's gotta be a more civilizing activity than target practice or group-thug behaviour). It's also good training for achieving umm equanimity? The connection between liquid movement and a calm demeanor - appears proven. Gawd knows the world needs a large increase in this quality - by any means possible.

Asked how he managed his daring leaps (the illusion was prevalent that.. he just stayed in the air ... for an unnatural time) Vaslav Nijinsky replied, one must simply rise into the air, pause, and come down.

Go --> Oz!

New I object in principle
to anything that is compulsory, whether it's good for you or not.
"We are all born originals -- why is it so many of us die copies?"
- Edward Young
New But many things are compulsory in schools
Reading, 'riting, 'rithmetic.
Gym
Language
English
Social Studies,
Science

Uniforms in some schools
ROTC in the HS I attended.

The parents have a choice of schools, at least here in Mini Snow Duh.

Don't want you child to were a uniform a school (yes, these are public schools), choose a different one.

Don't like mandatory religion class, don't send to a private religion based school.

Don't like the curriculum, choose another school.
"All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever."
1 Peter 1:24-25
New yep. I'm opposed to them too. :)

New I'm opposed
to opposition to my ideas!

:-\ufffd
New Another reason.
It's common for early forms in High School to take every subject so that when they get to choose which they want to study in more depth in later years, they have an idea what everything is like.

It's not really any different from girls doing Woodwork. Or boys doing Home Science (ala cooking)*. If Ballet is offered in later forms, why not have everyone do it in early forms?

Wade.

* I knew someone in high school who actually did that. And it wasn't to meet girls, though I imagine that happens. No, he took it because his mum was a terrible cook.

New Herschel Walker
Former Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Viking's fullback.

Danced in the local ballet in Ft. Worth, TX. Made the press here when Herschel first started with the cowboys.

But, early in his career, you couldn't argue with his moves.

Ballet is essentially teaching extreme balance and muscle control, and what could be better for someone who wants to avoid being hit?

May he continue to just ignore the troglodytes and persist..
as every unhomogenized person must do.
