New Fresh Warning from My Parents
One of my parent's neighbor's daughter was dating a Muslim fellow who warned her not to travel on September 11th.

He also warned her to stay away from the mall on Halloween.

He also recently disappeared and hasn't been seen or heard from by the daughter.

Her parents reported the incident to the FBI, but they weren't very receptive. We don't usually trick or treat in the mall, but since he was right about Sept. 11th, I think I'll probably stay as far away from a mall as I can on Halloween. (Not that I frequent malls that much anyway.) So, if you were planning on trick or treating in the mall, I would stay away on Halloween.

It's always been our policy to only trick or treat at the homes of people we know. This year, we'll be even more conservative, I think. Besides, we end up eating the candy until Christmas.

You heard it first here.

Who never really liked Halloween that much anyway...
New Sounds a *lot* like an urban legend to me
New Re: Sounds a *lot* like an urban legend to me
Just passing along what I heard. I doubt that CrossRoads Mall in Greenville, TX is a problem (all 30 stores of it).

However, if you were thinking about trick or treating at Mall of America, StoneBriar (big new 200+ store mall in the DFW area), Galleria Dallas/Houston, or any one of the very high profile malls in the country.

Glen Austin
New Urban legends
don't seem terribly appropriate for Greenville, Texas...

I've a friend currently living in Quinlan. He'll be out of the country for a while, and I'll have to drop by to check on his house from time to time, probably on the way to/from East Texas to visit Mother.

You up for chinese food some Sunday lunch? zIWethey doesn't do email addresses, but I check ric2525@yahoo.com occasionally...

Ric
New Chinese
I actually live Frisco about 50 miles away and drive over every day. I fill up my gas tank every 3 days. I'm in Frisco on the weekends. However, anytime you want to meet for lunch on a weekday, you can email me at gdaustin@aol.com .

If you're in Greenville, Yen Jing is pretty good for Greenville, but there are a bunch of places in Dallas that are better.

You work at Ratco?

New Re: Chinese
Frisco, Frisco... D*n. I know I'm supposed to know where that is, but it won't come to mind.

I'm originally from Pittsburg [Texas, not upinyankeeland :-)] I now live 'way west of Ft. Worth, but Mother is still at home, and I have to visit Quinlan from time to time.

I suggested Chinese because that's about all I know about eating in Greenville, after discarding the Kettle on I30 :-)
Regards,
Ric
New East Texas
Where are you from in East Texas? I'm spent 2nd grade - 9th grade in Longview, and the first 1/2 of 12th grade.

Then we moved to College Station, where I went to Texas A&M and lived at home for two years.

Glen Austin
New Already heard it.
Wife got an email from her sister yesterday morning to the same effect about girlfriend, 9/11 and malls on halloween.

As in all things these days, I'm skeptical. I'd probably be more inclined to chalk it up as an urban legend at this point. The threat of terrorism is very real, but I don't think we're going to see it telegraphed like this.

Of course, it's also possible that the story is a disinformation campaign of the terrorists to get us whipped up further into a state of paranoia, without actually having to do anything.

Halloween is always a good excuse for rumours and I've heard way too many over the years. Personally I think we have enuf to dread with all the drunk lunatics getting bent out of shape in their Bacchant celebrations. Halloween seems to be the biggest excuse for acting like idiots that we enjoy as a society.
New parent's neighbor's daughter was dating a ... fellow who ...
That should put up the warning flags right there. One more hand in there and we could pin this all on Kevin Bacon.

New Urban Legends Web Site
I visited the Urban Legends website (www.urbanlegends.com) and the Halloween rumor is there. They have a copy of an email that has been circulating, and the text is posted there. However, they won't assess the validity of the warning other than to say that some of the reasoning in the email is inconsistent. I'll post the link here and you can make up your own mind.

New No I didn't hear it here first.
It was in my email by 7:00 this morning.

New Re: 2 days ago SCMP issued warning of these emails

But was talking about them in England.

Seems there are a flood of them - always passed on by a friend of a friend who means well.

All seem to relate to someone who was either going out with an Arab who passed on the warning or who did an Arab a favour & in return was given the warning.

Classic wartime & stresstime crap

Cheers

Doug
New on the otherhand the new mall here had 220 thousand visitors
last weekend. It is the largest mall in Palm Beach county and since the terrs lived here while the mall was being built it doesnt take much imagination.
thanx,

tshirt front "born to die before I get old"
thshirt back "fscked another one didnja?"
New Perhaps some positive fallout of this all, might be the
returning of All Hallow's Eve to some other celebration than the stuffing of sugar into already obese and inactive children?

I much prefer Dia de los Muertos for celebrating the impermanence of bodies, and ridiculing our constant fear that, we might not live forever. The Mexicans possess also a wry sense of humor (eat that skeleton!).. On the whole, a much classier celebration, for adults (wherever found in small pockets) and the cheeldrun too.

But then - I'd naturally despise what the Puritans attempted, in twisting a 'pagan' holiday into Disneyland witch-bashing. I'm just sensitive in that peculiar way.
