1/2 point for Lister, 1/2 for Moffit
Enjoy! Dammit!
(Blues haven't lost in Toronto since 97/98 :)

Re: 1/2 point for Lister, 1/2 for Moffit
Was looking pretty grim there until near the end. Got all excited until BLAM! in overtime.
Ah well. A loss was bound to happen with this win streak going on. I'd rather they get that loss against a good team (non-conference team a major plus!) than a shitty team. How sad would that be to lose to Pittsburgh?

Blues play good defen"c"e, eh?
Their forechecking has been outstanding, which is why they are in 1st place in their division with numerous GIH. Osgood only faced like 10 shots in the final two periods. Hockey amounts to keeping the other team out of your own zone and killing power plays.

Re: How sad...
Ask the Wings. I went to that game. The Pens typically go through Hasek like he's Swiss Cheese.
bcnu, Mikem
Java, Junk. Both start with a "J", both have four letters. Coincidence? I think not.

Actually....
Despite losing Mario, and a couple others on injury, and loaning Fleury to the Junior Hockey Championships, the Penguins have not been playing all that badly for the most part. They are holding their own against pretty good teams, tying them at times, and even winning sometimes.

No really...
They're dead last. Tied with Washington. In fact technically worse than Washington, they've got two less wins. Six wins. Six. I remember the Leafs back in the '80s being that bad. It was just brutal watching them lose all the time.
For the sake of Fleury, I hope the Penguins return him to junior or the AHL after the junior championships over the Christmas break. You can't throw a kid like that to the wolves every night.

Re: No really...
Lemieux as an owner is clearly an idiot. And in fact, don't you get just a little sick of "Lemieux syndrome"?

Lemieux
Well given a choice between nothing and a piece of the team, he made the right choice, as the Penguins owed him a lot of money. Clearly him playing increases the value of the team. I wonder how much effort he's made in trying to sell his portion. Or maybe the plan is to cut costs, field an AHL team for a few years, get several top first round picks, have the labour thing hit the fan, a salary cap put in place and then a few years down the road the Penguins could be a winner again and he could make off like a bandit if he sold his interest. Not too bad of a plan. Depends on how much in the red the team is.

I think the labor thing will get fixed. It has to.

Not too bad of a plan. Depends on how much in the red the team is. Well, you also have to look at the fact that had he not bought the Penguins in the first place, they might not even still have a team. So in many ways, he was their saving grace, and they know it. Mario isn't really interested in money. He's mostly interested in keeping the team in Pittsburgh, and making it a good franchise again. Unfortunately, it takes money to do both of those things. All in all, he's a pretty good owner, genuinely seems to care about his team and what happens to it. He's even letting Fleury stay in his home. Nightowl >8#

I admit, the outlook isn't good
They're dead last. Tied with Washington. In fact technically worse than Washington, they've got two less wins. Six wins. Six. I remember the Leafs back in the '80s being that bad. It was just brutal watching them lose all the time. I know they are dead last, but they are still improving their playing. They might still have a chance IF they step it up and keep up the improving. For the sake of Fleury, I hope the Penguins return him to junior or the AHL after the junior championships over the Christmas break. You can't throw a kid like that to the wolves every night. He doesn't really want to go back to the Junior league, and if the AHL is the minors, (I don't know what that is), he isn't eligible for that. He didn't even really want to leave to play for the championships, but they all thought it would be a good experience for him (team owners and his agent) so he went. I still have faith that they might be able to turn it around, but they would surely have to hurry. Nightowl >8#
