How 'bout dem Wings?
4 goals in the third period? Man, I guess the Blosers were lucky Zetterberg and Holstrom were out. Might have been a total mugging instead of just a tie. <cackle, cackle, cackle>
And how 'bout dem Leafs? 8 in a row - WOW! And beating those same Wings 5 - 2 at the Air Canada Center. Even more impressive: only two penalties!
I won't say, "Maybe this is the year" because I've been saying that since 1959 (the year I was born) ;-)

Lemme tell you, that SUCKED. I turned the damn thing off to fill my head with ant knowledge, and before I know it, the score is tied! Those hosers have our number. Yzerman had his usual career against us. He made a play in OT that made my jaw drop. He got a breakaway on Osgood but Oz made a brillant stop and quick feed, resulting in a 2-on-1 with Demitra and Tkachuk streaking in on [that other Detroit minder]. Out of nowhere Yzerman comes flying into the TV frame and breaks up the set-up pass. He went end-to-end from the breakaway to the defense 20 feet out front of his own goal - amazing! He was totally gassed afterward but you'd never know by his play when the clock is ticking.

Stevey Y is my kind of guy.
Remember when you watched your favorite team and there were actually players on it from last year? Can't blame 'em for going after millions, but it does speak volumes to the concept of "team loyalty". I guess only fans are supposed to be loyal now. <sigh>
I only got to see the third period of that game - and I want to thank the Blues for saving the best of the game for the last period. ;0)

I guess only fans are supposed to be loyal now. <sigh> Then I guess I'm a fan, because my favorite team, The Pittsburgh Penguins, still has my favorite player on it. Of course, it isn't my home team, and right now Mario is out on injury, but hey, at least he's still there... The Blues were so great when they had Hull and Oates. And Pronger is good too, but something just seems to be missing about the way they used to play Vs now. At least my Mighty Ducks aren't doing half bad either! Nightowl >8# Owls love hockey! Well, you would have been right in 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1967. Though I doubt you would have actually been saying that until the mid '60s. ;-)

Last I checked...
...the Flyers were the best team in the league (by record only).
And unfortuntely I know that thinking "This could be the year" is futile in ANY sport in this town.

The Flyers
I don't know. They still suffer from Clarke's inability to get a top-notch goaltender. I know that's compensated a bit with Hitchcock's defensive system but still, they need that money goalie. I'm very surprised that Clarke hasn't picked up Cujo yet for a song. So couple the goalie problem with some of the press I've been reading about Roenick and Hitchcock, that looks to be a potential mess to blow up. As much as Hitch may be a good guy, it's usually dreadful watching his hockey games. Zzzzzzzz...
Though if it comes down to strategizing the playoff matchups, I'd be perfectly happy with the Flyers finishing first in the conference. Assuming the Leafs don't self destruct or become an AHL farm team due to the injury bug, the Leafs should finish 2-4 and wouldn't face the Flyers until the later rounds of the playoffs. After last years debacle, having one of two powerful teams bounced in the first round sucks.

Don't know what came over me. Brain Fart big-time! 1967. Hell, I knew that - dunno what I was thinking.
Of course, to be totally honest, I've only been saying that since 1992 (the year I became a hockey fan ;-)
I watched the NBA religiously all the way through high school (class of 77) and golf. Mostly because I played basketball in high school and golf in high school and college. I hadn't watched any sports until 1992 when I got hooked on the playoffs - even got one Uncle hooked so bad that the next year when he moved to Boston he somehow managed season tickets.
I don't watch much tv, but if there's a hockey game on I don't respond to human interaction until the end of the game. Everything else seems like its in slow motion.
