New Re: Well, I do.
Nice - so why can't Yahoo and Hotmail do this?

I think MS is trying to hush up the magnitude of this thing. It's stunning how pervasive these worms are. tftp is the world's top-rated process at this point, nosing out cron by a factor of 10 to 1. OK I made that up.

New I'll tell you why...
Pop Quiz Hotshot!

You are SBC/Yahoo and you sell your users' email addresses and vital statistics to Spammers. Would it be in your best interest to block all Spam?

Of course it wouldn't, as SBC/Yahoo also likes to Spam their own users with advertising. So they make their Spam Filters very weak, and move any Spam it finds to the Bulk Folder instead of deleting it. I'll bet their NAV 2003 hasn't even been updated to catch the latest worms, so they also end up going to your inbox or bulk mail folder.

New So ditch 'em.
Run your own server.

Beg/borrow/buy an account from someone who does.

There are alternatives.

New I've tried
I had my normad.com server up and running using a public domain email program. Problem is my ISP started blocking server protocols like POP3, SMTP, WWW, Telnet, etc so I had to quit.

I am not sure where else to go, everyone else wants money to host accounts and I am dirt poor. I already pay for DSL and am locked into a contract. I am sure if I paid for a static IP they would stop blocking server access, but I cannot afford that either.

New Do you ever lay off? (new thread)
Created as new thread #129231 titled [link|/forums/render/content/show?contentid=129231|Do you ever lay off?]

Is it enough to love
Is it enough to breathe
Somebody rip my heart out
And leave me here to bleed

Is it enough to die
Somebody save my life
I'd rather be Anything but Ordinary
Please
