I just checked out the new demo CD being produced for eComStation. Somehow, IBM was convinced to let us distribute a demo CD with only peer networking (ie- file and print) and printing disabled.
So, here's what the new CD does. It will boot up, detect your nic driver, and install it on the fly during boot. There is a series of config screens that can be used to change the default selection if the autodetection routine happens to screw it up. After you boot, you can run a little proggy that will initialise the tcpip stack with basic parameters using dhcp or hand entry of IP address, netmask, nameservers, and gateway. At that point, you can fire up Moz and go browse the web. I fired it up in Virtual PC, and it just worked right off the bat.
It only works in ram, and won't access hard drives at all, so you need a fair chunk of ram to make it go; it calls for a minimum of 128 MB.
Pretty damn nice.
