New Sunni - Shiite split
From what I have discovered so far, the split happened right after Muhammad died and the question of succession arose. The Shiites thought Muhammad chose his son-in-law (and cousin) but the Sunni sect thought Muhammad told them to chose someone from among their peers/elders. The new leader became AlouBeccer (sp?) and he said something to the effect that if you worship Muhammad he is dead, if you worship God he lives forever.
In relation to Christian religion, Christians also believe that God lives forever, even after all the prophets, except Jesus, died. (or is this incorrect?)

I sincerely apologize for my possible mis-quotations of the Koran or the Bible but I hope to learn from the intelligence of those around me, irrespective of their professed religions.
New Re: Jesus died ?

In the creed all Catholics are indoctronated with it is considered fundamental the the religion that 'on the 4th day he arose again from the dead & sits at the right hand of the father etc: etc:'

The creed (the Nicea creed) was devised as part of the catechism all catholics must be fluent in before being 'confirmed'.

The trinity is also part of the creed & when Catholics make the sign of the cross they recite In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost' - the Catholic church fought a nasty war internally over contrarian views of the meaning and divinity of the trinity. The Langdoc (sp?) region in France is where the losers last battle was fought.

Now in recent years the wording of both may have changed just a tad.

Kind of greenish blue, but not as greenish as, say, teal.
