Try running the script "xf86config" - it's text oriented - step by step - and never fails to make a workable X configuration. If you've entered the world of X binary incompatibilies - my prayers are with you :) Currently I'm trying to modify the Cirrus server code - X is a huge, ugly mess - amazing it works so well most of the time. -drl

Any further discussion of this will require you posting your hardware list, XF86 startup logs, and /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. Post #124,913 by folkert 11/10/03 10:39:59 AM Reply	I want you to try this: apt-get remove --purge gpm (and the other stuff it uses, like imwheel and so on) dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 select the apropos device for you mouse (if it is USB /dev/inpu/mice, PS/2 /dev/aux, etc...) then re-write your conf... Goto CTRL-ALT-F1 and login (as root or you and su to root) /etc/init.d/gdm stop ; /etc/init.d/gdm start or whichever Display Manager you use.
