France defeated Ireland 44 to 21 - the Irish managed to get a try in the dying minutes other wise the score would have looked really bad for them.

England started off badly against Walse who led at half time by 10 to Eng 3.

But in 2nd half England clawed back the game & the Welsh started fumbling the ball. England were 25 to 10 ahead of wales with 10 mins to go - then Wales scored a surprise try. Wales converted to take the score to 17(W) to 25(E)

Then in the last 7 mins the welsh blew several good opportunities to score purely by bad passes. It was agonising to watch. Also the importance of having a good goal kicker was highlighted in that had the Welsh kicker (Lestyn) landed all his kicks, the game would have been tied. But to add insult to injury the brilliant English captain Johnny Wilkinson, kicked a field goal right on full time taking the final score to 28 England vs 17 Wales. Wilkinson scored 23 of England's 28 points.

An interesting game - England's heros were Wilkinson (as always) and Mike Catt.
