A classic welfare state Democrat in all his overweening arrogance and incompetence. he started two big wars at the same time and then screwed them both up. The last Democrat who knew how to win a war was Truman, and even he didn't always get it right. The last one who knew how to prevent one was... um, I'm not sure there ever was one. Clinton knew how to put one off until he was just barely out of office, but that's hardly the same thing.

But hey, Nixon wasn't much better. He had those wage and price controls. Philip K. Dick had his number: Ferris Fremont is a Red!

We'll never see their like again... if we're lucky. Bill Clinton came uncomfortably close, though.
