Suggested alternatives to Google?
All day today, [link|http://www.google.com/search?q=SQLite+perl|this search] has not been squashing the obvious duplicates.
Can anyone recommend a search alternative to Google that I can use while this bug is limiting the utility of Google's results?
Thanks, Ben

Doesn't filter out duplicates
[link|http://www.alltheweb.com/search?avkw=fogg&cat=web&cs=utf-8&q=SQLite+perl&_sb_lang=pref|Same query].
I'm used to getting a "feel" for packages I haven't played with by doing a general search, and glancing at a few pages for complaints or praise. That doesn't work if I am told 50 gazillion times that Debian has this package...
Cheers, Ben

Try this:
[link|http://alltheweb.com/search?avkw=fogg&advanced=1&cat=web&jsact=&_stype=norm&type=all&q=&_b_query=&l=en&ics=utf-8&cs=utf-8&wf%5Bn%5D=3&wf%5B0%5D%5Br%5D=%2B&wf%5B0%5D%5Bq%5D=sqlite+perl&wf%5B0%5D%5Bw%5D=&wf%5B1%5D%5Br%5D=&wf%5B1%5D%5Bq%5D=&wf%5B1%5D%5Bw%5D=&wf%5B2%5D%5Br%5D=-&wf%5B2%5D%5Bq%5D=debian&wf%5B2%5D%5Bw%5D=url.all%3A&dincl=&dexcl=&geo=&limip=&doctype=&dfr%5Bd%5D=1&dfr%5Bm%5D=1&dfr%5By%5D=1980&dto%5Bd%5D=22&dto%5Bm%5D=10&dto%5By%5D=2003&size%5Bp%5D=&size%5Bv%5D=&size%5Bx%5D=0&hits=10|http://alltheweb.com...%5Bx%5D=0&hits=10]
To see what I've done, look on the advanced search page. I told it not to return any results with "debian" in the URL.

Filtering Debian from the search results on Google...
gives me a better result set. :-(

So "virii" is nerd spelling but "hittage" is apparently OK

virii is old and gone
hittage is new and (may be, but I hope not) coming. Using an old and long-rejected form makes you a nerd. Using a new, not accepted form makes you a different kind of nerd. And talking about it makes me... (fill in the balnk)

Suggested alternatives to search terms
Try [link|http://www.google.com/search?q=SQLite+perl+-site:debian.org+-accepted+-%22index+of%22&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&start=0&sa=N|this]. \r\n\r\n Google allows you to filter out sites (-site:debian.org), terms (-accepted) and phrases (-"index of"). These appear to improve your search results markedly.

Thanks, but...
It is annoying to have to do manually what used to be done for me automatically. It definitely opens up a window for alternatives.
Cheers, Ben
