I picked up a Brother HL-1440 laser printer as it has drivers for my new Mac as well as OS/2. The OS/2 driver is the LaserJet driver, supplied by IBM.
The OS/2 driver prints at 300 dpi while the Mac does 600 dpi. The printer comes with 2MB default and you need more for 600 dpi, so I'd added 16MB to it. Even with the added memory, OS/2 doesn't give an option for 600 dpi.
I found out that I could get 600 dpi by selecting a different printer(Brother HL-7050). While this works, it will abort the print job if I send too much data to the printer. I suspect it's partyly because the 7050 comes with 32MB.
Is there a way to tell the driver that the HL-1440 now has 18MB and thus can handle 600 dpi?
