New Hub/Cable Issue
I had a room connected to the network go offline
The room had its machines connected to a hub and then uplinked
My first guess was the uplink cable but plugging it directly into a machine instead of plugging it into the hub showed it was fine
So I got another hub (16 port instead of 24 because there were only fifteen connections in use, 13 computers, printer and uplink cable)
when I unplugged the cables from the old hub there were 17 ends
what had happened was that someone had plugged both ends of an unused cable into the hub
our resident guru seemed surprised that this would shut down the network connection completely muttering 'I didn't think they had bounce in EtherNet'

any clues?

New Probably not a "hub"
This can happen with a switch. Hubs are passive, switches are active. With a hub there shouldn't be any problem because no traffic is being sent. A switch is different.

It is much harder to be a liberal than a conservative. Why?
Because it is easier to give someone the finger than it is to give them a helping hand.
